The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF), the Bar Council Malaysia and the Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM) and the United Nations Country Team in Malaysia are commemorating Human Rights Day on 7th of December under the theme of ‘Rights and Freedoms as a Foundation for an Inclusive Future’. This day invites us to reflect on the importance of promoting and protecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people when moving forward to an inclusive and prosperous future anchored on people.
The event will be launched by YB Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department in Charge of Human Rights, Governance and Integrity, and will be followed by a Panel discussion echoing the voices of various vulnerable groups and communities in the Malaysian society. Each panellist will offer their perspective on how to unleash the full potential, capacities and abilities of people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to inclusive sustainable development and how development outcomes can be shared more equitably. The afternoon session will present a diverse programme to show how civil society are advocating for human rights in Malaysia. Various groups will be hosting booths and exhibitions during the afternoon, and a human library will be showcased allowing participants to be part of a journey of human stories that are bound to challenge and inspire us to act for human dignity.
